Well, I'll put it like this. In 1969, when I was in the very first grade in rural Alabama during winter, it was in the mid-30s outside. And I was required to go to school naked. Shoes were not allowed. This isn't for sentimental reasons or to tell a sad story. But I remember my brother being just a few blocks away from our house. I'm standing at the front door. The sister I was with stood just a short distance from him,, and another sister was waiting at the bus stop.
