What are Flow Computers?
Computing device are electronic devices installed at oil and gas production sites, gathering stations, refineries and pipeline terminals to measure and control the flow of hydrocarbons such as crude oil, natural gas and refined petroleum products. They play a critical role in custody transfer measurement and allocation of production among joint interest owners.
Basic Functions of a Flow Computer
A flow computer performs some key functions when installed in a flow metering system:
- Collects real-time data from various flow meters, pressure transmitters and temperature sensors installed in the Flow Computers The common types of flow meters used are ultrasonic, coriolis, turbine, positive displacement etc.
- Perform calculations to determine flow rates, volumes, densities, energies, compressibility factors and other process variables using appropriate API, AGA, and ISO standards and equations of state models.
