The Growth of Virtual Education

Over the last decade, virtual charter schools have grown significantly across the United States. These schools offer full-time, online education programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. In contrast to traditional brick-and-mortar schools, online charter schools deliver curriculum and instruction exclusively through the internet. This flexibility has appealed to many families and has led to rapid expansion in recent years.

Virtual Charter Schools from pro-virtual education organizations like the National Education Policy Center, nationwide enrollment in full-time virtual schools has grown from around 100,000 students in 2009 to over 300,000 in 2019. Some states have seen even higher growth rates.

For example, enrollments have increased by over 1000% in Ohio and Arizona since 2009. This growth shows no signs of slowing as virtual education continues gaining popularity and acceptance.
