The RuneScape games will be Steamforged's 12th edition of a video-based game for tabletop. Other adaptations have included OSRS gold  the Monster Hunter: World board game, which made PS3.4 million on Kickstarter in 2021.

The exchange of virtual currencies in exchange for real-world cash can be a problem for many online games, disrupting in-game economies, disrupting player experiences or making games into pay-to-win situations. In RuneScape the exchange of the virtual gold has been a particular problem and has led to bots mine the resource, and allegations that the ability to buy in-game 'bonds' in real money amounts to gambling.

The company has announced that Jagex has outlined strategies to combat the issue. In a recent blog post that is attributed to "The RuneScape Team", the publisher states that "gold purchased through RWT is a problem for any online game that has an exchangeable currency", and that although the "Anti-Cheating Team has made significant efforts to tackle RWT sellers in both the games and outside" It will soon be taking more drastic measures with immediate beginning.

Citing the "growing team and better methods", Jagex says it will no longer just be looking for sellers of gold or resources with RWT but also buyers. Its goal is to cut down the demand, and also the supply.

Jagex announces that it will be sending "messages to those we've identified that are engaged to engage in the RWT" within "the coming hours". "For those who have been involved, we'd like to emphasize that this is the single und only caution," they added.

Other measures that the developer may think of as punishments for RWT activities include wealth removal , which essentially taking away gains made by accounts of players on the server level. It could also mean potential bans.

RuneScape's PvP component, dubbed"the Duel Arena, will also see stricter rules implemented. Jagex states that the feature "has been a catalyst for this kind of shady behavior", and that 38 per cent of all bans related to RWT action up to this point result from that part in the game. The company claims that this equates to "thousands of bans per month".

So, the developer appears to be taking the nucleus choice, saying "we're thinking about the long-term to take this Duel Arena out of RuneScape entirely." Until then it will put in place "some immediate measures" to clean up PvP "until our development teams have the ability to release an osrs fire cape service  update major enough to completely substitutes for the Duel Arena next year."
