Blizzard recently revealed Diablo IV's fifth and last class for its launch, the Necromancer, as part of the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase Diablo 4 Gold. While the Necromancer is no doubt the most popular class among fans as it was featured as a character in Diablo II, Diablo III as well as the recently released Diablo Immortal, some fans have wondered why the game doesn't include any class that has never been seen before in the Diablo series.

According to director of the game Joe Shely in a recent interview with P2PAH The choice to not introduce new classes was due to player expectations , and ensuring that the elements fans are familiar with from previous Diablo games are included in Diablo IV although in a new, modern form.

"Well in a variety of ways Diablo IV is actually an ode to our fans," Shely said. "We've really focused on the idea of returning back to the darkness. We also know that when we create an Diablo game, players have high expectations for DII:R Diablo III, as well as previous Diablo experiences that they've enjoyed. Therefore, there are many things that just must be included. And when we're looking at the classes, we wanted to ensure that the same experiences that people
remember fondly from earlier Diablo games were accessible, but also bring them into the latest versions of themselves."

A few aspects of Diablo IV's classes, while not exactly new, haven't been seen in quite some time. The Rogue is back from the original Diablo which is actually a combination from Diablo II's Amazon and Assassin classes. Additionally, the
Druid is from Diablo II also returns. The other classes, including the Barbarian, Sorceress, and Necromancer -- have been featured used in Diablo II, III, as well as Diablo Immortal.

Diablo community director Adam Fletcher recently confirmed the idea of eventually selling paid expansions for Diablo IV (in combination with optional cosmetics via an in-game store) which means it's possible that new classes will be added to the game following launch. Diablo Immortal is slated to receive new classes over time as free updates buy Diablo 4 Gold, and fans have already apparently gathered data about one possible franchise-first class The Blood Knight.
