I recall getting a Madden 23 coins phone message from my brother following their first game of preseason when multiple flags were thrown against him for the rule and He was furious. He was playing against a smaller defensive line and when he attempts to hit his chest, the hands rise naturally up and make brief contact with the helmets of the players. The incident was never previously reported and now it was. We were both concerned about how it would fundamentally alter the play of offensive linemen.

The regular season began these calls magically went away. I'm pretty sure Mitch wasn't called for one of these throughout the season. They were rarely executed as stated in the rules book and any contact with the helmet was not considered a foul. A direct hit to the helmet could be enforced and play in the trenches was not required changed fundamentally.

It's a long Buy Madden 23 coins and windy way of saying that I'm not sure the Madden NFL 23 will continue to liberally enforce this new helmet rule throughout the regular season. Will they make a mistake making it clear from time to when, yes, they'll do it, but this rule shouldn't substantially alter the game's gameplay if it's implemented correctly.
